Trainsaw
Gameplay
Trainsaw is greatly inspired by The King is Watching's City Building resource mechanics, combined with a mobile tower defense approach using trains looping around the fortress. The game was made for GMTK 2025 Game Jam with the theme of "LOOP" over the course of 4 days.
Much like the game this is inspired by, you must place buildings onto the 5x5 grid to build them. However, the buildings are only active or producing a result if the gold cursor selection box is surrounding the buildings in the fortress. You can move the gold selection area by left mouse clicking and dragging to a new location. The golden selection area can also be rotated to better fit an area by using the R key. The gold selection area is vital to gameplay and can be upgraded using the Golden tower.

TIP: The Town Center is an extremely important building to get running quickly as it grants you more tiles and higher quality resource gathering! It needs wood to operate.
TIP: Mouse over building tiles in your inventory to see what they do. Some buildings require resources for them to be activated. You can check build resource requirements by mousing over the building in the fortress and a tooltip will appear.
TIP: Once you get used to the flow of the game, you can use the Fast Forward button in the upper right to speed up gameplay!

Really liked this game, any plans on expanding it, different levels, increasing the difficulty?
Thanks for the nice comment and I am glad you enjoyed the game! I would like to expand more on this, but currently have a few other projects underway so my time is pretty limited.
If I were to expand upon it, was there anything you would’ve liked to see or have included? I have some thoughts on more structures, like a windmill that activates the tile in front of it periodically. Or research buildings that upgrade the strength/power of the train cars.
Mainly more buildings and more different mobs. I never felt much improvement in getting new weapons later on in the game as the trains didn’t seem to expand. The middle and later part of the game starts feeling very repetitive without much challenge. Hopefully you’ll get around to updating this game, I know the feeling all too well of time running short xp
This was really interesting and fun! I've never played The King is Watching so it took a little getting used to. Looks great too
